Building Families Through Adoption for Over 30 Years

Spreading the Word

Seeking to adopt a child through private adoption requires a high level of commitment.  It is not something that can usually be done in secrecy.  If you decide that this is something you want to do, then you must commit yourselves to it and you must be willing to have everyone you know be aware of your desire to adopt.

A large percentage of parental placemtn adoptions come about simply because of referrals from ordinary people.  Perhaps Aunt Betsy plays bridge with a woman whose friend from church knows a young woman who is pregnant.  It happens in just this way.  If Aunt Betsy does not know of your intentions, she will not pass the information along.

It is a good idea to prepare a letter, much like a Christmas letter, which is to be sent to family, friends, church members, doctors, and other qcquaintances.  The letter should inform people of your desire to adopt and tell a little bit about your story.  You should ask people to keep you in mind and to let you know if they become aware of a possible adoption situation.  This something people are generally quite willing to do.
